Amaryllis all done putting on its show for the season? Time to cut it back! Once your amaryllis has finished blooming, proper care allows the bulb to rebloom year after year. Cut off faded flowers to prevent seed formation, then remove the flower stalk—do not cut the leaves, as they produce energy through photosynthesis to replenish the bulb. Place the plant in a bright, sunny window and water regularly while fertilizing monthly with a balanced houseplant formula. In late spring, move it outdoor

If you’re growing an amaryllis bulbs indoors this winter it’s a good idea to cut the entire stock back when all of the blooms have faded on that stem. This keeps the plant from wasting energy on that stem now that it is complete. Make sure not to damage any other stocks where the flowers have not bloomed yet or any leaves. I think it’s a great idea for everyone to have a pair of garden snips or garden scissors around for making cuts like this where we don’t want to damage the other plant tissue.

❗️ Time to chop ‼️ After flowering it’s good to leave the green stem on your Amaryllis until it begins to yellow. Cut the flower off, but keep the green stalk and leaves while they’re still firm and green. Cut it off when the stem turns yellow. 🌱 Why you should leave the stem • the green stem is photosynthesizing • energy it makes is stored back in the bulb • this helps the bulb re-bloom next season • removing it too early can weaken the bulb So: • pinch or cut off the spent flower to stop seed

Cutting an amaryllis bulb into 8 sections for propagation without disturbing the root involves the method called "cuttage" This method requires slicing the bulb vertically into 8 pie-shaped sections, ensuring each section includes a part of the basal plate (the flat scale portion at the base of the bulb). Use a sharp, sterile scalpel or knife to make clean vertical cuts through the bulb, slicing it into 8 sections. Each section must have a portion of the basal plate attached to it, as this is ess
