ODFW’s hatchery staff have been working night and day to keep hatcheries running during the atmospheric river events in recent days. With rising rivers comes debris, sediment and even full trees sometimes, which can clog hatchery intakes that provide the oxygenated water fish need to survive. A Chinook salmon was recorded ascending the fish ladder at Keno Dam on the upper Klamath River this week (Sept. 24) — a powerful sign of recovery since the removal of four hydroelectric dams last year. Salmon have not been in this part of the Upper Klamath Basin for more than 100 years.
